Ólafur Freyr Birkisson

Bass

Ólafur Freyr Birkisson bass-baritone is a student at the Icelandic Academy of the Arts with Hanna Dóra Sturludóttir, Kristinn Sigmundsson, Dísella Lárusdóttir and Matthildur Gísladóttir. He has also attended lessons with Stuart Skelton. He previously studied at The Reykjavík Academy of Singing with Egill Árni Pálsson and Hrönn Þráinsdóttir.

Among his more prominent roles in theater are: Dante in Ekkert er sorglegra en manneskjan by Friðrik Margrétar-Guðmundsson and Adolf Smári Unnarsson, the opera was nominated for the Icelandic Theater Awards Gríman. Vigfús in Mærþöll by Þórunn Guðmundsdóttir, Tevye from the Fiddler on the Roof by Jerry Bock and Sheldon Harnick and Gísli in the Raven's Kiss by Evan Fein and Þorvaldur Davíð Kristjánsson.

Other most noteworthy performances are: Requiem by Fauré and J.S. Bach's St. John Passion with the Langholtskirkja Choir conducted by Magnús Ragnarsson, Mass in C major by Ludwig van Beethoven, with the Háskólakórinn conducted by Gunnsteinn Ólafsson and Stefan Sand, J.S. Bach Kantata nr. 137 and Kantata nr. 30, with Kammerkór Seltjarnarneskirkju, conducted by Friðrik Stefánsson. Ólafur was one of the performers of last year's Seigla music-festival. Earlier this summer, Ólafur gave a performance with the Iceland Symphony Ochestra conducted by Nathanaël Iselin.
